In response to an investigation from The i Paper, Heidi Stewart, BPAS Chief Executive, said:

"We are increasingly seeing well-funded anti-abortion organisations, many with links to the United States, seeking to influence debate and policy in the UK. That is concerning, particularly given the aggressive rollback of reproductive rights we have witnessed in parts of the US in recent years.

“However, it is important to recognise that the UK remains a strongly pro-choice country. Polling consistently shows broad public support for safe, legal abortion care across the political spectrum, including among Reform voters, and there is strong backing for women’s right to choose.

“Parliament has also repeatedly demonstrated its support for protecting and modernising abortion care. Over the past seven years, we have seen more progressive reform of abortion law than in the previous fifty. Earlier this year, peers voted to strengthen abortion law reform measures and rejected attempts to roll back access to telemedical abortion care — reflecting the reality that these services are safe, effective and valued by women across the country.

“At BPAS, we will continue to oppose any attempt to roll back women’s reproductive rights. We will keep campaigning for a modern abortion law that recognises abortion as healthcare, and we will keep providing compassionate care to the one in three women who will need an abortion in their lifetime."

About BPAS

The British Pregnancy Advisory Service, BPAS, is a charity that sees over 100,000 women a year for reproductive healthcare services including pregnancy counselling, abortion care, miscarriage management and contraception at clinics across Great Britain.

BPAS exists to further women’s reproductive choices. We believe women are best placed to make their own decisions about contraception, pregnancy, abortion and birth. Women deserve evidence-based information on which to make their choices and we campaign for comprehensive reproductive healthcare services to enable them to exercise those choices.

BPAS also runs the Centre for Reproductive Research and Communication, CRRC. Through rigorous multidisciplinary research and impactful communication, the CRRC aims to inform policy, practice, and public discourse. You can find out more here
