British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is the UK's largest independent women's reproductive healthcare charity. We work mainly on behalf of the NHS across the country providing abortion, contraception, STI testing & treatment. We specialise in evidence-based, not-for-profit reproductive healthcare.

About the role

As a sonographer at BPAS, you will be performing high quality obstetric dating scans as well as gynecological scans to assess for RPOC. The main focus of the role consists of early pregnancy/ dating scans but also dating in the second trimester- performing HC measurements to determine a gestational age & post treatment checks.

 

About you

You will be a qualified sonographer or registered Adult Nurse or Midwife but must possess a minimum Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound qualification. You'll have a minimum of 1 year experience since the completion of your Post Graduate Certification and will be registered with a professional body, either the NMC or HCPC.

You'll be client focused & someone who considers themselves a team player. As subject matter experts, you will be expected to advise, support & occasionally mentor BPAS Nurses or Midwives, who have undertaken a basic CASE accredited Ultrasound course, should they require a second opinion or input from a more qualified Ultrasound practitioner.

 

We are also looking for

  • Experience of participating in audits
  • Ability to perform obstetric ultrasound examinations
  • Teaching and training experience

 

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure that high standards of Ultrasound scans are undertaken at BPAS
  • Support nurses and midwives by providing reassurance and practical advice surrounding Ultrasound scanning
  • Ensure that clinical policies and guidelines are adhered to at all times
  • Support the lead sonographer and the Ultrasound facilitators in managing an effective Ultrasound service
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of Ultrasound scanning
  • Aid the Lead sonographer and Ultrasound facilitators with undertaking investigations surrounding DATIX and serious incidences
