All the information and instructions was clear and straight forward. On top of that, there is 24 hour helpline on standby for any other emerging concerns and questions
Extremely quick process, completed the form online for a consultation before sleeping and received a call the next morning. I was informed exactly what will happen in a professional yet precise manner and was lucky enough to not experience as much pain as others do. I was unsure of what procedure to have, and was informed thoroughly of both to ensure I made the right decision.
The staff at BPAS, from my initial enquiry phone call to my ultrasound appointment in the clinic, were some of the most considerate, compassionate and professional medical professionals I have ever had interactions with. As a young autistic woman experiencing her first ever unwanted pregnancy I was stressed beyond belief, but was immediately put at ease by the 'bedside manner' of every staff member I spoke to. Thank you, to each and every individual working at BPAS. You're helping women just as much as I'm sure you hoped to, be proud of yourselves. I'm so grateful.
The lady I had my consultation with was exceptional and made me feel confident that I could understand the treatment and the aftercare with unbiased support and kindness. She listened carefully and was so knowledgeable with my queries and getting to understand my very unusual medical conditions rapidly to ensure that treatment would be safe. The delivery of the meds was rapid and the booklet was really thorough. Thank you.
The nurse I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. She didn’t make me feel uncomfortable or afraid. The pills were posted the same day as my telephone consultation and the whole process was over within 3 days.
The nurse that did my consultation was very thorough and explained everything in great detail. I could ask as many questions as I wanted and even asked her to repeat some information and was never made to feel rushed. I was often reminded that the aftercare team were available to me at any time if I needed them. I also liked that a video on how to carry out the treatment at home was available online, this was very helpful.
Everyone I spoke to was kind, supportive, but without having an opinion on my choices (which was actually really refreshing), and confidential. Every time they called the word 'abortion' wasn’t mentioned once, so even if someone were to overhear randomly no one would ever be aware of what I was going through.
I was really impressed by the level of service here! Every person I spoke to was clear and informative, but I was also made to feel calm and supported. It did not feel like they were clinically reading from a script or rushing to move onto the next client - time was taken to ensure I fully understood the process, to make an informed decision. I was worried that I would feel judgement - but this was not at all the case.
Every step of the way was so supportive. The consultation call was a week after I made the inquiry which was great timing for me. The nurses at every point were so helpful and supportive even booking a blood test at a clinic immediately for the next day where I also collected my pills with no delay. I was well informed all the way through and always reassured by the fact I had the helpline available to me whenever (which they were and were also very helpful). Thank you!
The ability to be able to do this over the phone and from the comfort of my home has been amazing. I was very scared of what might happen, but the information received and the booklet sent out were very reassuring. I'm very very grateful a charity like this is in place for women thank you for supporting me with my choice.
The lady I spoke to was amazing, I didn't feel judged, I felt supported and understood. She explained everything perfectly didn't rush me at all made sure there was nothing I didn't understand, the tablets came quickly. For something that wasn't easy to do, it was made to make me feel the most comfortable I think I could have been. Thank you.
Everyone was incredible, especially when I called the aftercare line for some advise- I was called back in less than 10 minutes and the clinician I spoke to was really supportive and gave clear advice and reassurance. I’m truly so grateful for the service and everyone I spoke to.
Absolutely lovely staff, a great experience from start to finish. Was made to feel welcome as soon as I walked through the door. Me and my partner were offered drinks as soon as we walked in, and was offered another after my operation with biscuits. Couldn’t of praised the staff enough for their support, from pre occupying me through the procedure to being friendly and supportive after. Absolutely amazing all.
No, the team were amazing and made me feel welcome and supportive and would highly recommend
Overall was really impressed. Only reason I didn’t give 10 was because I needed 3 doses of local anaesthetic, which is to say that there was no fault of anyone’s really, the surgeon was very good at updating me, stopping, applying another dose. just that part was painful until the 3rd dose kicked in, but no one’s fault. Staff were great.
I was treated well by everyone involved in my procedure, from the initial telephone consultation, through to admin staff, nurses and the surgeon. Really impressed and very happy with everything. I didn’t have to wait long for the procedure, it was done locally and I was kept informed and reassured at every step of the way. My recovery has been swift and I put that down to the performance of the surgeon, and the clear advice from the nurses. Everyone’s souls be congratulated!
The service I received was outstanding!!
Fantastic service and support thank you I would recommend to any one.
The midwife was so wonderfully warm and kind she made everything so much easier.
Very professional service.
Fantastic service and support thank you I would recommend to any one.
Can't think of any improvements all staff were excellent.
You went very much out of your way and provided a service that I certainly didn't expect. At the very worst time of this client's life you gave the very best service.
The lengths that BPAS staff went to in highlighting all the options available to my client, resulted in her making a positive choice about her pregnancy, rather than feeling that she had no control or choice.
Having thoroughly considered all applications, the tender panel were unanimously of the view to award the contract to BPAS for reasons of cost, quality, patient choice, location, alignment with the PCT's strategy and enhanced partnership working.
Having the support and attendance from a BPAS representative at our countywide Sexual Health Network meetings provides us with valued insight into termination services and the needs of women living in Hertfordshire. This close working relationship has helped the development of integrated care pathways, with a particular emphasis on supporting those under 25 years of age.
Patient Satisfaction Results (April 2024 – March 2025)

Case studies
Liverpool Women's Hospital
Liverpool Women's Hospital wanted to provide a high-quality service for their clients but did not have sufficient capacity to meet existing demand. Working in partnership with BPAS, the hospital arranged to undertake treatment themselves up to 16 weeks, with the additional facility for direct booking with BPAS in cases where there was a wait of more than seven days for treatment or when the client was over 16 weeks pregnant.
We quickly realised that one of the challenges of a split facility might be duplication within the consultation process. To improve the customer experience this needed to be streamlined, and we achieved greater efficiency by eliminating the client's second consultation, so that they did not need to give the same information to two different providers.
Clients could now feel that they were effectively dealing with one organisation, without the burdens of unnecessary bureaucracy at what is already a stressful time for them.
North Middlesex Hospital
The PCT wanted a more local service, so BPAS worked with the PCT and North Middlesex hospital to a provide a service on a Saturday from their Day Surgery Unit. BPAS is present from 8am every week and sees a list of nearly 40 clients. The hospital provides support services including pharmacy, catering and laundry, keeping costs low.
Delivering the service on site at the hospital means that BPAS has the support of the necessary acute services - and at a vulnerable time for the client there is the convenience and security of attending a familiar hospital, right on their doorstep.
BPAS' flexibility meant that a reactive and cost-effective solution to a client's problem could be found - and the PCT knows that their women are receiving a high quality service, based on 40 years’ experience.
Coventry PCT
BPAS has many long-standing contractual arrangements with PCTs and has often supported them in achieving ambitious government targets for sexual health services. Coventry PCT had been trying to meet its targets including a reduction in teenage pregnancies. BPAS designed a Young Persons Contraception Service based on the needs of the local community, ensuring accessibility through appropriate opening times and maximising links with other agencies in the field.
The service was specifically created to meet local needs and offers emergency contraception and early access to abortion. It is now included in the PCT's Under 25 Chlamydia Screening Programme as a designated test site with data being fed back directly to the PCT.
Coventry PCT had confidence in BPAS as its chosen provider and knew that our work in bringing together all the stakeholder agencies meant that the project's goals were jointly owned and agreed.
