Lucy Ward, Policy and Engagement Manager at BPAS and Co-founder of Back Off Scotland, said:

"We are disappointed that Scottish Labour's women's health manifesto does not include commitments on abortion - a routine healthcare procedure that one in three women will undergo during their lifetimes, and a right which has been under political attack around the world in recent years."

"It is not enough for politicians to say that standing for the status quo on abortion puts you on the side of women. Every four days a woman travels hundreds of miles to England to access abortion care that she is legally entitled to receive in Scotland but cannot access. Just last year an expert group established by the government found that Scotland's abortion laws are outdated, out of line with best practice, and in need of reform. These are urgent matters for women’s health and rights that the next Scottish Government must engage with."
