British Pregnancy Advisory Service Appoints Dr Patricia Lohr as Director of Research and Innovation

18 January 2024

British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) proudly announces Dr Patricia Lohr as Director of Research and Innovation, a newly established role within our leadership team.

Dr Lohr’s appointment is pivotal to fulfilling our commitment to evidence generation and the development of novel models of care. It anticipates significant growth in our research portfolio, heightened engagement from staff and patients, and expanded collaborations with external partners.

Leveraging Dr Lohr’s 16 years as BPAS Medical Director, during which she led the Centre for Reproductive Research & Communication and oversaw notable clinical service developments, this role will help shape the future of abortion care through pioneering research and progressive approaches.

Dr Lucy Moore, Executive Chair of BPAS, said:

“I am absolutely delighted that Patricia is taking up this new and exciting role. No one is better placed than Patricia to build the BPAS research strategy and extend the breadth and depth of abortion-focussed research in the UK.”

Reflecting on her appointment, Patricia said,

"BPAS is a forward-thinking organisation, and this new role exemplifies its dedication to pushing in new directions. As the largest provider of abortion care in Britain with a strong strategic commitment to research and innovation, BPAS is well-placed to answer some of the most challenging questions facing our field. I am excited to work with BPAS staff, patients, and our wider community to set the direction for a long-term research strategy, as well as strengthening our partnerships with the NHS, fellow independent providers, and academic institutions to advance abortion and related care in the UK and beyond.”

Dr Lohr will assume her new role in February. An Interim Medical Director will work alongside Cheryl Crosby, Director of Operations and Rachael Greshon, Director of Nursing, Midwifery, and Quality in our triumvirate model.
