bpas comment on EPIcure 2 study of survival rates of extremely premature babies

“It is very sad that there has been no significant increase in the survival of infants born before 24 weeks. While this latest data shows there is certainly no clinical basis for calls to reduce the abortion time limit, the science will only ever be one part of the picture. The moral case for why a small number of women in difficult circumstances need access to later abortion care remains as compelling as ever. While the reasons for extremely premature births remain unclear, bpas encourages all women who wish to continue with their pregnancy to see their GP or midwife as soon as possible: the sooner antenatal care can begin the better the outcomes for both mum and baby.”
